Some replaced skills will not be lost, because enough people find an intrinsic interest in them Think of the ren-fest people making swords. They’ve revived an almost lost art form from interest. Now think of the other professions from the 12c England. Which ones have we fully lost knowledge of? In a best case, some communities would form, Amish style, to reject AI and retain these human skills. It’s possible that AIs won’t be able to innovate as well as humans, so these communities will provide the AI-dependent world at large with a source of new ideas and preserved human skills. In this, AI-using humans become freeloaders, taking for free what those who pay the high price of non-AI-using existence provide (possibly willingly, since it would be hard to avoid leaks) Would those innovations be of use? What about the lost skills? Are we really losing anything if nobody knows how to knap(?) a flint rock into a useful tool? One fear is that we would become more fragile.
